This episode's introduction
[VOL.48] Let's make a notebook that no one will see
How are you? This is your host, Miho Ishii.
This time I'd like to share some messages I've received about my speaking style.
I like Miho's calm way of speaking and her tone of voice, it's very soothing.
Is there anything you do to avoid getting emotional when speaking?
I am also attracted to Miho's large vocabulary.
How can I improve my vocabulary?
Thank you. To tell the truth, I've always had a complex about my voice. I've always wanted a more bell-like voice.
However, I've started to feel a little more confident after people have told me that my podcasts are easy to listen to and help them sleep well.
When it comes to speaking, I've always been mindful of the importance of "comprehending things." When I was younger, I would blurt out what I thought straight away, which always led to mistakes.
However, since I found myself in a position to train others, I learned to swallow my frustration and then think about how to say it in a way that wouldn't hurt the other person's feelings.
Even if I have the structure of what I want to say in my head, I try not to say it right away. Instead, I try to be conscious of conveying it in a softer, more rounded way.
When it comes to vocabulary, I feel like I still have a lot to learn.
When I consulted a veteran writer, he told me, "It's a good idea to read and copy the writing of people who use nice expressions and words that you don't use." Reading books is really important.
You can't increase your vocabulary just by reading short information like Instagram. By reading how impressive words are used in the introduction, development, turn, and conclusion of a story, it sinks in for you. That's why I've been reading long texts again recently.
